Built to meet the moment

Schools were heading into a new year and needed a budget tool, so we built one. Then we kept going. Each of these works on its own and all of it is free today, so start with whichever question is in front of you.

Facilities and community

See your community and the seat gap, then size and cost the building.

Free to use, and it shows its math, so the call stays yours.

Live in November

One solution to run a school of 10 to 500 students

In November it all comes together. Space and Budget join a full service accounting platform on QuickBooks Online, with accrual frameworks built in so a cash-based school can see the real picture and build a path toward lasting business health.

Budget versus actualIn real time, so you see the gap while you can still do something about it.
Accrual frameworksBuilt in for cash-based schools, so the picture matches what really happened.

ReceivablesWhat is owed, how old it is, and who to follow up with.
Payroll managementYour largest expense tracked against the budget as the year moves.
Contract remindersA heads up before a contract renews or expires, while you can still act.
Lease analysisWhat the lease costs across its full term, with the math shown.
EnrollmentStudents and revenue in one place, instead of two systems that disagree.

When a lender asks

Prequalify through Lending Lab and know where you stand before you apply. Fit first, with real underwriting after.

When an accreditor asks

Reporting that is already assembled, sourced, and current, instead of a scramble through last year's files.

When your board asks

Reports that are easy to digest and tell the story of how your financial resources fuel the mission.

Why we build

Built by a founder, for founders

I've been there.

I started out in a middle school classroom, and everything I know about the business side I learned the hard way. I've watched a lot of good school leaders learn it the same way. None of it is intuitive.

I've also raised more than $100 million in philanthropy and public grants, so I know what funders and lenders want to see. We built SchoolStack so you don't have to guess.

Allison Serafin Founder, SchoolStack. Built a nonprofit from the ground up and launched a charter network in a new region.

Last summer we met over 100 school founders who had quit careers and signed personal guarantees to open schools. Most could not see where their financial health was headed. Accounting tells you the past. We wanted founders to see what is coming.

FAQ

Common questions

What can I use today?

All four: Space for facilities and community, Budget for financial modeling, Access for funding information, and Lending Lab for financing. No need to wait for the platform.

Is it free?

Yes. Every MVP feature above is free between now and the November launch. Philanthropic partners fund our work so we can focus on getting it right, and we intend to keep SchoolStack BI within reach of the schools that need it most.

What happens to Space and Budget in November?

They grow into it. Both were built to meet an immediate need, and in November they become part of the full accounting and enrollment platform rather than staying separate tools. Access and Lending Lab stay where they are. We will walk you through what changes well before the launch.

What does prequalifying tell me?

Where you stand today and what to strengthen before you apply. Real underwriting comes after, done by people who read school finances for a living. Space, Budget, and Access are there to help you plan and prepare.

Is my data safe?

School data deserves real care. We follow FERPA expectations for student information, encrypt sensitive data at rest, and are working toward SOC 2. Ask us for specifics and we will tell you plainly where we are.
